Hi guys. This is Haley, the original founder of Faces of Liberty. As many of you know, yesterday we lost a fellow student and brother – Jon Gregoire.
The day after I started Faces of Liberty, I met Jon on an interview spree in front of Demoss. There was something about him that I noticed and was drawn to right away. One of the first things he said to me was that he heard about this project and was excited to be apart of it. The next day I saw him at a night of worship downtown and was able to open up to him right away about my struggles and he thoroughly encouraged me. The following semester I had the opportunity to work with him on a project that involved putting together a bunch of local bands for a festival called “Lynchstock,” a music festival Jon co-created with Jon Smalt. We spent time planning and looking for venues – he always had so many great ideas. Even though I didn’t finish the entire planning process with him – he did an incredible job putting together one of the best nights of my entire life. This semester we hung out at the Instagram meet and had a great one-on-one conversation about music, life, and of course Lynchstock.
One of the trials I had to face this semester was the loss of my younger sister Kristin, who took her life 3 weeks ago, which is why Matt had posted here for prayer. Jon was one of the first people to send me a text telling me that he was praying for me and that I encouraged him. When I got back to school this past week a few days after Kristin’s memorial service he gave me a long hug and offered his condolences and that he had been praying for me like crazy. That was the last time I saw and interacted with him.
If ANYONE had been an encouragement to me, it was Jon David Gregoire. He lived passionately for the Lord and was such an example of Christ’s love. I can only hope to be as much of a light as he was. Enduring two losses so close to each other has really shown me how fragile life is. We can’t take for granted the life God has given us. In the midst of the pain, I hope we can be comforted in knowing that Jon is rejoicing with his Heavenly Father and experiencing complete joy.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” – Revelation 21:4
